Things I learned while listening to Talk Radio (copyright PhillyTalk.com)
Here is a list of things I've learned about while listening to talk radio over the years. I first wrote about this in college and then briefly in the late 1990s. Written in no particular order and attributed to the specific host where possible. Note that each issue may not be original each host but may only have been popularized by that host or often repeated as a core belief. There is an old archived forum thread here for more.
Yes the election is over and now the real work begins.
guy won then be prepared to insist on promises kept including a
balanced budget, tax cuts, benefit increases, border security and the
land of milk and honey abroad. Restore our liberties, security and
privacy. Don't settle for anything less.
If your guy lost (and
mine wasn't even in this) then stand on your core principles and don't
give up. Life goes on.
myself ... I still had to get up for work, run my business, be a
husband and father, pay my bills (and *shudder* taxes) ... life goes
on. There are a number of legal things I can do to avoid most of what
could be a real mess.
Politically I see no reason to adjust my
own principles. On the most basic points I've yet to be challenged on
any of them. Some things like reasonably lower taxes bringing in more
federal revenue is as absolute as the sun rising in the east but as
Obama said he would raise such taxes even in the face of lower revenue
in the name of fairness. I stand on fact and proven economic principle
... the other side stands on fairness and feelings despite it being a
failed policy of the past. For that reason I worry and pray for our
In retrospect I still think McCain should have won in
2000. George Bush who won against two of the biggest world class
losers in human history turned out to be almost unrecognizable
politically among those that supported him. Bush wasn't even remotely
conservative, in the fiscal or national sense, and he spent way to much
time reaching across the aisle only to have it thrown in his face the
instant things got tough. Can you say "No child left behind"? Sure
you can. That law was written with the approval of Ted Kennedy's staff
and widely supported by democrats but the instant there was trouble
they all dumped it on Bush. And he never responded. He just took it
and never articulated what needed to be said. Hey, who am I kidding
here, he could barely articulate his name. Still I give him credit for
keeping us safe, let's see how much longer that goes on now.
year McCain only got his base behind him by adding Palin and then
squandered that by muzzling her and having his boneheaded "handlers"
completely mishandle her.
The "mainstream" media is a story all
unto itself. They no longer can pretend to be remotely credible but
ultimately they got what they wanted. They and all the leftists along
with the rest of the voters will quickly find out that having is not
nearly as fun as wanting.
WNTP 990-AM finally pulled the plug on Laura Ingraham and installed
another host from their Salem Radio Network stable, Mike Gallagher.
hinted at the change on her show last Friday with the tease of her
moving to bigger and better stations. For Philly fans of her show
you're out of luck. There's no nearby stations with signals big enough
to tune in to her show.
Gallagher had been tape delayed in the 3 to 6 am slot but now runs live in Laura's former slot, 9 to noon.
WNTP will expand it's evening and overnight shows to make up the time.
Hugh Hewitt is back to a full 6 to 9pm
Mark Levin is on from 9 to 11pm
Dennis Miller is on oddly from 11 to 1am AND 4-5am.
Michael Savage is on from 1 to 4am
5am to 6am is left blank for now.
We've just witnessed a selection event that in some ways eclipses the selection of a new Pope. Instead of waiting to see the color of the smoke rising above the Vatican it was text messaging that alerted the eager press and supporters that yes The Chosen One has selected Joe Biden as his running mate. Let the bells ring and the doves fly for joyous is the news that the tiny state of Delaware is now front and center ... a state know for low taxes. *GRIN*
Ok first congratulations to Delaware Senator Joe Biden for being selected as Obama's running mate. I'm sure he's a nice guy when you get to know him, a good father and loving husband.
As vice president and booster of Obama's weak credentials ... No Way.
Am I the only one that remembers Joe Biden's goofy quotes, lies about his resume and college stats, and blatant lifting of quotes and course material without accreditation?
