Hit Counter

This domain uses SiteMeter ( http://www.sitemeter.com/ ) for its counter.  Below is an explanation of the information it provides for those interested in using such a counter.  This service is not the most comprehensive but it has some advantages over other counters.

Site Meter does not use cookies although some browsers may erroneously issue a warning for them.  Usually this is a result of the browser falsely detecting the JavaScript embedded in the page as an attempt by the page to place a cookie.  What it does is ask your browser what page your are visiting within the domain and make a note of it on SiteMeter's own server.  It does use cookies for the administration of the account.

It does not detect your email address or any personal information.  This is in keeping with our privacy policy.

By placing the SiteMeter code on most pages we can more accurately count initial site visits.  You may note that reloading a particular page does NOT increase the count.  This is done by the counter detecting your dynamic IP#.  This way the total count is not driven up by browsing many pages on the site.  If your IP does not use dynamic IP#'s (a new IP# for each session on the Net) then it will not count repeat visits on any given day, that's another way counts can be artificially driven up.  I try to construct the site so as to minimize page views through efficient navigation.

Previous to this counter we tried several others, including Front Page's own counter and in the early days one from AOL's own servers.  Each of these could not keep an actual account of "unique" visits.  Each time the count was driven higher that it should by counting total page views and not individual visitors.  The current count   does not include all those page views.  Unique for this purpose is defined as The total number of individual visitors who used one browser application to view your page one time within a 24-hour period.

Page Views - Total pages visited as counted by SiteMeter.

Visits - Total individual "unique" visits as counted by SiteMeter.
