The benefits of taking Vitamin D with Vitamin K2
We know that Vitamin D levels increase the body's ability to fight off infection and disease. It is probably the single most important step you can take to improve your health. The video below gives some background detail on this.
Now evidence suggests that K2 with Vitamin D helps control where calcium goes in your body. K2 takes calcium away from where it shouldn't be (like piling up along your arteries) and puts it where it should go, like your bones. This combination is critical. Vitamin K is found in some leafy greens, fermented foods, vegetables, dairy, and animal products. I enjoy a good salad with spring mix greens and homemade dressing.
You get Vitamin D through sunlight, food, or supplements. Of course, a good diet with exposure to some sunlight is the best way. Even reflected sunlight off of your yard as you sit in the shade is good. Long-term, during illness, and for those with low levels, supplements are an option.
When you get your blood tests done be sure to ask that they do Vitamin D levels. Many people report that this test is being dropped. You'll want to have this test done once in the middle of winter. People that spend a lot of time outdoors shouldn't need to worry about it. I will post my results after the next test.
2023 Update: My Vitamin D level went from borderline deficient in winter 2020 to 70 in February 2023. I take a supplement every other day in the summer and daily in the winter. If I get enough sun and foods high in K2 I'll take fewer supplements in the summer.
I found this brand works well for me and the softgels are pretty small. If you have a better alternative please let me know.
Do not take Vitamin D before sleep. Take it earlier in the day with a meal/fats.
